Summary

  1. video.aux viewport source no longer binds DOM listeners: it subscribes to UiTracker viewport/screenSize/new visualViewport stages as wake-ups and still measures itself (events byte-identical). UiTracker gains a visualViewport stage.
  2. ApplicationTracker drops its temporary online/offline stages (type change in @bugsee/trackers/browser). The events source's online/offline come from ConnectivityTracker; baseline is not an event, only a change of navigator.onLine is.
  3. New display_mode_changed event {mode, previousMode?} from the UiTracker displayMode stage (browser + webview).

Per commit, test-first, mutator loop run on each changed entity; pnpm ci:local passes.

…d UiTracker

Adds a visualViewport stage to UiTracker (pinch zoom/pan: visualViewport
resize/scroll). The viewport source no longer binds window/visualViewport
listeners; it subscribes to the viewport/screenSize/visualViewport stages as
wake-ups and still measures itself, so video.aux events are unchanged.

…line

Removes the temporary online/offline stages (and their window listeners) from
ApplicationTracker. The events source's online/offline events now come from the
ConnectivityTracker `online` stage: the activation baseline is state and is not
announced, and only a change of value is an event. online/offline are bound once
per window instead of twice.

Review of PR #93

I read the diff and the surrounding code in UiTracker, ConnectivityTracker, ApplicationTracker, launch.ts and the system-events and viewport sources. I did not run the test suite or pnpm ci:local, so I make no claims about their results. This is the first review of the PR, so there are no earlier findings to compare against.

Findings (posted inline)

  • P3 packages/browser/src/launch.ts:983: the carrier-shared viewport source freezes the first launch's onError. On relaunch it can reinstall that stale reporter on the shared UiTracker after the new launch set its own.
  • P3 packages/browser/src/viewport-source.ts:216: a density-only change (window moved to a monitor with the same CSS size but a different devicePixelRatio) only wakes the source through screenSize. That stage is silent when screen is missing or zero-sized, so density can go stale. The comment currently calls the wake-up set "complete".

Checked and found sound

  • Online/offline: nothing else in packages/ still calls .on('online' | 'offline') on the ApplicationTracker, so the type change is contained.
  • Baseline handling: the primed/last logic in #subscribeConnectivity correctly treats the activation baseline as state, not an event. It handles a tracker that was already active by falling back to connectivity.current().
  • display_mode_changed: previousMode is sourced and omitted correctly.
  • rebind with visualViewport: rebinding the shared tracker with visualViewport after it is already active re-attaches all its listeners and re-baselines silently. That is a one-time reset of the fps window at launch, which I consider harmless.
  • webview: it only gains a test update. The behaviour comes through @bugsee/browser.

Summary

  1. Overall risk: Low.
  2. Merge recommendation: Approve with minor follow-ups. Neither finding blocks the merge.
  3. Most important issues to fix: the stale onError on the carrier-shared viewport source, then the density wake-up gap or its comment.
  4. Positives: the refactor removes duplicated DOM listeners (online/offline are now bound once per window, and the viewport source binds none of its own). It keeps video.aux events byte-identical by measuring in the source and using the tracker only as a trigger. The changeset documents the type break clearly, and the PR adds tests for the baseline and coalescing cases.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added visual viewport tracking for pinch-zoom, panning, and visible-region changes.
    • Added display_mode_changed events for browser and WebView environments.
    • Added dedicated connectivity transition events for online/offline notifications.
  • Improvements
    • Shared viewport, orientation, and connectivity listeners reduce duplicate notifications.
    • Viewport updates retain event coalescing and cleanup behavior.
    • Display-mode changes report the previously active mode when available.
  • Documentation
    • Updated tracker documentation to describe visual viewport support and event ownership.

The changes move online and offline event ownership from ApplicationTracker to ConnectivityTracker. ConnectivityTracker adds transition events with lazy navigator and Network Information access. UiTracker adds guarded visual viewport state and notifications. The browser viewport source uses shared UiTracker stages. Browser system events add connectivity and deduplicated display-mode notifications. Browser and WebView tests cover shared listeners, injected environments, event values, and cleanup.

Severity: P3 Low
Problem: The viewport source is carrier-shared (getOrCreateInterceptor('browser-viewport', …, carrier)), so the factory runs only for the first launch. The onError captured here stays frozen in the source's #env.
Impact: Every activation of that source calls uiTrackerFor(…, env.onError) (viewport-source.ts #sharedTracker). UiTracker.rebind replaces the shared reporter with any defined onError ("latest launch wins"). After relaunch() with a different onError, the traces and events sources register the new reporter during buildLaunch. The reused viewport source then activates later and puts the first launch's reporter back. Host-read failures from the shared per-window tracker then go to the dead launch's callback. This is the only place in the PR where a shared tracker is handed a stale reporter.
Scenario: launch(token, {onError: a}), then relaunch(token, {onError: b}). The tracker's reporter ends up as a again.
Fix: Don't freeze onError in the carrier-shared factory. Either rebind it per launch in the same way bindInputBlackout does for the input source, or have the source read a mutable holder that each launch updates. Alternatively, skip passing onError when rebinding an already-existing tracker.

Fixed in cedd437: launch no longer passes a carrier-captured onError into the shared viewport source, so the UiTracker's reporter stays latest-launch-wins; covered by a relaunch test (errA=0, errB>0) that fails if the pass is reintroduced.

Severity: P3 Low
Problem: The source now wakes only when the tracker publishes a changed viewport, screenSize or visualViewport payload. Before, any window resize triggered a re-measure. screenSize is the only stage that carries devicePixelRatio. UiTracker#read('screenSize') returns undefined unless env.screen has positive width and height. #publish never emits an undefined value.
Impact: If the window has no screen, a zero-sized screen, or a screen getter that throws, a density-only change leaves density stale in video.aux. Page zoom still wakes the source because innerWidth also moves. The case that is lost is a window dragged to another monitor with the same CSS size but a different devicePixelRatio.
Scenario: Injected or embedded window with screen.width === 0 (some webviews and test hosts), dragged between a 1x and a 2x monitor. density stays at the old value.
Fix: Keep the wake-ups. For a devicePixelRatio-only change, either add a devicePixelRatio read to the UiTracker's viewport payload (not just the screenSize one), or accept the narrow gap and document it next to the "complete set" comment, which currently claims completeness.

Acknowledged, not changed: the density-only case needs a readable window screen for the tracker's screenSize stage. This is documented as a caveat in the changeset and PROGRESS.

…h's onError or forces a UiTracker re-baseline

UiTracker defaults visualViewport to the window's own (guarded, live); the viewport
source passes only an explicit injection and launch passes no carrier-captured
onError. Adds per-field hostile visualViewport tests.

Re-review of PR #93 (new commits 3b71782e, cedd4376)

I read the diff since the last review (6cd3c8b2..HEAD) together with the surrounding ConnectivityTracker, UiTracker, viewport-source and system-events code. I did not run tests or pnpm ci:local, so I make no claims about their results.

Earlier findings

  • Stale onError on the carrier-shared viewport source (P3): fixed. launch.ts no longer passes onError to createBrowserViewportSource, and the comment explains why. The shared UiTracker reporter is now only rebound by each launch's own consumers (traces and events sources), so the first launch's sink can no longer be reinstalled. A case I checked: if the viewport source is the first to create the tracker, the reporter stays undefined until another consumer rebinds it. That is a harmless gap.
  • Density-only wake-up gap (P3): still open, no new comment. viewport-source.ts:24-30 still describes the wake-up set as "the complete set". UiTracker's screenSize stage still returns undefined unless screen.width, screen.height and devicePixelRatio are all positive. A window with a missing or zero-sized screen that moves between monitors of the same CSS size but different DPR therefore still leaves density stale in video.aux. Either carry devicePixelRatio on the viewport stage or soften the comment. It does not block merge.

New code checked

  • ConnectivityTracker transition stage:
    • The kind comes from the DOM event type and does not read navigator.onLine, so a flap that reads true on both is no longer lost. It also emits no baseline, which matches the "attaching is not an event" rule.
    • #syncConnection and onListenersChanged attach navigator.connection and emit the baseline only while a state-like stage (online, networkInfo or state) has a listener.
    • Lifecycle is sound: #running is set before #attach, and #detach resets #connectionAttempted and clears both listener lists. A rebind that moves the window or navigator re-attaches and re-baselines.
  • display_mode_changed: the mode === before guard stops a re-baselined tracker from re-announcing a mode the source already knows. previousMode is omitted rather than guessed when the earlier mode could not be read.
  • UiTracker visualViewport default: it now falls back to window.visualViewport through guarded reads. viewport-source.ts passes visualViewport only when it was explicitly injected, so one consumer can no longer trigger a detach and re-baseline for the others' running stages.

Summary

  1. Overall risk: Low.
  2. Merge recommendation: Approve. The previous onError finding is addressed, and the density gap is a narrow follow-up.
  3. Most important issue to fix: the density-only wake-up gap, or its "complete set" comment, in viewport-source.ts.
  4. Positives: the transition stage keeps per-event online/offline fidelity independent of navigator, listener attachment is demand-driven, and the new tests cover the lifecycle and baseline cases.

Re-review of PR #93 (new commit 2a455e17)

I read the diff since the last review (cedd4376..HEAD). It changes one line in docs/PROGRESS.md. I did not run tests or pnpm ci:local, so I make no claims about their results.

Earlier findings

  • CodeRabbit: docs/PROGRESS.md named the wrong stage as the source of online/offline events. Fixed. The entry now says the events source gets online/offline from the ConnectivityTracker transition {online} stage. That matches connectivity-tracker.ts:52, :181 and the subscription at system-events.ts:225.
  • Stale onError on the carrier-shared viewport source (P3). Fixed in cedd4376, as noted in the previous review.
  • Density-only wake-up gap (P3). Still open, and the author has acknowledged it. The PROGRESS entry now documents it ("without a screen a density-only change with an unchanged inner size is not noticed"). It does not block merge. If you want it closed fully, soften the "complete set" wording in viewport-source.ts:24-30 or carry devicePixelRatio on the viewport stage.

New findings

None. The latest commit only edits docs.

Summary

  1. Overall risk: Low.
  2. Merge recommendation: Approve. The remaining density gap is narrow and documented.
  3. Most important issue to fix: optionally, the viewport-source.ts "complete set" comment, so it matches the documented caveat.
  4. Positives: the review follow-ups were addressed in code, tests and docs, and the PROGRESS entry now describes the transition stage accurately.

Pass the launch error reporter to the viewport source.

When the viewport source is the first UI-tracker consumer, a refused shared-listener registration can call the source environment’s onError. Browser launch currently creates the source without that reporter, so the failure is silently discarded instead of reaching options.onError.
