Purpose / problem solved: Monitors an OpenAI API organization through the OpenAI Admin API: daily spend, token usage by model, project and API key, prompt-cache hit rate, and how close each project is to its monthly spend limit. It also imports projects, API keys and users as objects so dashboards can be scoped to them.
Primary audience: Platform and engineering teams, FinOps, and anyone who owns an OpenAI API bill.
Authentication method(s): Admin API key (read-only permissions are enough).

🧪 Test plan
Tested against live data on a deployed build with the squaredup CLI:
squaredup validate passes.
Object import of projects, API keys and users.
All four default dashboards (Overview, Trends, Project, API Key) opened against live data, with the Project and API Key dashboards scoped to an imported project and key.
Cost, usage, spend limit and API key streams return data for the scoped objects.
⚠️ Known limitations
Covers OpenAI API usage only. ChatGPT seats and Codex used through a ChatGPT sign-in are not available from the Admin API.
OpenAI returns 12 months of history, and cost is daily, so the shortest timeframe is the last 7 days.
OpenAI allows 30 cost requests a minute per organization, so a dashboard with many cost tiles over a long timeframe can briefly hit the limit.
Projects without a spend limit show an error on the Spend Limits stream; other projects still return.
Spend alerts, rate limits and audit logs are not included.

Limit the Month Over Month Spend comparison to days the prior month has.
The tile is titled "Change (like for like)", but its SQL does not compare like days when the prior month is shorter. On March 30, the current-month total covers March 1–30. The comparison covers all of February (28 days). With flat daily spend, the change shows about +7% instead of 0%. Cap both the current-month and prior-month sums at the number of days in the prior month. Also correct the tile description at trends.dash.json line 114.

Update the SQL for the datastream-sql tile to cap both current-month and
prior-month spend sums at the number of days in the prior month, so the
comparison uses matching day ranges when the prior month is shorter. Update the
tile description to accurately describe this like-for-like comparison.

Leaving this one. The tile now compares completed days only (also in 5c79e64), and the remaining skew only shows on the last few days of a month that follows a shorter one. Not worth the extra SQL for this PR.

@Daniel-Hodgson-SquaredUp Understood. I accept leaving the remaining month-length skew unchanged for this PR. Would you like me to open a follow-up issue?
Nice plugin. Two things I'd like to check before merge:
Is the usage filter actually being applied?usage.json sends project_ids, api_key_ids and user_ids without []. group_by[] in the same file has brackets, and so do ClaudeConsole's array args. Unlike cost.js, usage.js doesn't filter by project itself. So if OpenAI ignored those args, the Project and API Key dashboards would show org-wide requests and tokens without any error. Could you check that a scoped "Requests" tile returns a lower number than the org-wide one on an org with more than one project or key? Either way, could you make the bracket style match group_by[]?
Usage buckets aren't aligned to midnight.cost.json floors start_time to UTC midnight, but usage.json and otherUsage.json pass timeframe.unixStart as it is. On rolling timeframes the daily usage buckets then start at whatever time the dashboard was opened. That doesn't line up with the cost buckets, which skews "Cost Per 1K Tokens" on Trends. Using the same Math.floor(… / 86400) * 86400 in the usage streams would fix it.
Minor, non-blocking: there's no guard when threshold_amount is missing (it gives NaN), projectName in apiKeys.js is never used, and month-over-month compares all of today from last month against today's partial data this month.

Make the Cost Per 1K Tokens denominator match its description.
The tile description says the metric is chat and text spend divided by completion tokens. The query divides that spend by input_tokens + output_tokens from the usage stream instead. The plotted cost per 1K value is therefore lower than the described metric in any week with input tokens. A FinOps reader who uses this tile for unit-cost decisions gets a systematically understated figure.
Use the completion-token count as the denominator, as the description states. If the all-token figure is what the author intends, change the description to name input and output tokens instead.

Map file-search results from num_requests.
The file-search response uses num_requests, but the script expects num_model_requests for both requests and quantity. File-search rows therefore lose their call count and cannot provide the documented numeric fields to stream consumers. Vector-store rows have no request-count field, so do not fabricate a requests value for them. This is separate from the completions-only Requests dashboard issue.

Hey @clarkd, you’re right on both, good catches cheers :)
I’ve switched to project_ids[], api_key_ids[] and user_ids[] so they match group_by[] and ClaudeConsole (OpenAI’s own SDKs send arrays in that format). Shall sanity-check a scoped Requests tile against the org-wide one before merge.
Fixed, the usage and other-usage streams now round the window to whole UTC days, the same way cost.json does, so the buckets line up and Cost Per 1K Tokens compares like with like
Also sorted the minor ones: null guard on threshold_amount, dropped the unused projectName, and Month Over Month now compares completed days only.
- Send usage filters as project_ids[], api_key_ids[] and user_ids[]
- Align usage and other-usage windows to whole UTC days, like cost
- Guard a missing threshold_amount, drop unused projectName
- Month Over Month compares completed days only
- Keep null-model rows as Unknown in by-model charts
- Read file search counts from num_requests
- Clarify Requests and Cost Per 1K Tokens descriptions
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
@clarkd Checked the scoped filter on a 3-project org: org-wide shows 151 requests, the Marketing Content project shows 38 and a single key shows 14, and project_ids[] / api_key_ids[] show up in the request URL. So the brackets are working and filtering is done by OpenAI itself. Should be good to go :)
