The changes look good to me as well. The issue is marked as a bug, but the only visible behavior changes is performance. Since it might help future backports I am fine with merging.

To me this looks like an additional optimization with little real-world impact, rather than a bugfix, so it should count towards the speedups in 3.16. Compiler experts, please reopen if you disagree. |
