Adds one item to "Light reading" in the edition 140 draft: an article on reading a repository's status straight from .git (HEAD, refs and packed-refs, the binary index, pack .idx lookups and delta chains), and on using the index's cache-tree extension to skip reading HEAD's tree when nothing is staged. It also lists what the reader doesn't handle and how it is tested against the real git binary.

Disclosure: I wrote the article, and it describes the internals of GitMon, a paid macOS menu bar app I make. The app is only mentioned in the closing paragraph. Please edit the wording freely or drop the entry if it doesn't fit the edition.

Suggested by @suresk for rn-140 in pull request #877;
'cherry picked' instead of trying to resolve merge conflict.

Added in 56fc41f by hand, instead of trying to resolve what looked like a merge conflict.
