Description

Gordon can now answer from an assistant that runs in the reader's browser, instead of the docs AI service. This PR adds that path to the chat panel, behind a site setting. The current chat stays the default, so nothing changes for readers until the setting is switched.

params.gordon.backend / HUGO_GORDON_BACKEND
├─ "legacy" (default) current chat, unchanged
  └─ "browser" in-browser assistant
loader script added only on interest:
hover/focus on a Gordon button, or opening the panel

On the new path the panel works as before:

  • Answers stream in, cards included.
  • A short status ("Searching the docs…", "Reading this page…") shows until text arrives.
  • A Stop button keeps the partial answer.
  • Thumbs up/down are kept, and the reader can change their vote.
  • History stays in session storage, with the same turn limit, and Clear chat starts a new conversation.

For local testing, HUGO_GORDON_PROXY_URL and HUGO_GORDON_LOADER_URL point the panel at a local service. Both are ignored in production builds, like HUGO_GORDON_URL.

Gordon can now answer from an assistant that runs in the reader's
browser, instead of the docs AI service. It's off by default:
params.gordon.backend (or HUGO_GORDON_BACKEND) set to "browser" turns
it on, and "legacy" keeps the current chat.

The assistant's script is only loaded once a reader shows interest in
Gordon (hovering over or focusing a Gordon button, or opening the
panel), never on a plain page view. Answers stream as before, with a
short status while Gordon searches or reads the page, a Stop button,
and the same thumbs up/down.
