refactor(opencode): stream events through the client and use the v2 config schema - #477
Event streams: the local aggregator and every remote server now consume the typed api.event.subscribe() iterator from @opencode/client instead of the eventsource package, with one shared reconnect, backoff and stall-detection loop. eventsource leaves backend/package.json.
Proxy: /api/opencode/* and /api/opencode-servers/* share one streaming forwarder. Request and response bodies stream (duplex: 'half') instead of being buffered, so events, media, file reads and session.log work through the Manager, and about 75 duplicated lines are gone.
Config: the hand-written config schema is replaced by @opencode/schema/config. Settings reads the effective v2 config through api.config.get and writes v2 keys, deleting the matching v1 entry in the same comment-preserving edit.
Types: session, status, permission and agent shapes come from the client. The duplicated interfaces in the frontend, backend and ocm-cli are removed.

Change
shared: validateOpenCodeConfig owns v2 validation; one flattened V2Event & { directory?, serverId? } event type; the v1 Session, Message, FileDiff schemas and OpenCodeConfigSchema are deleted.
backend: new opencode-event-subscription.ts (reconnect, exponential backoff, stall watchdog) used by both event hubs; new opencode-config-references.ts keeps {env:}/{file:} references when an entity is saved, including renames and v1 definitions; PATCH /opencode-config removes the v1 counterpart and is refused with 409 while a restart is pending; /opencode-config/managed returns { info }.
backend: reference restoration now runs only when the patch names an agent, command, provider or MCP server, so an unrelated save no longer reads the resolved config; the restart-pending 409 applies only to those patches; a failed config update returns the client-read error mapping instead of a bare 500.
backend: the Assistant v1-to-v2 conversion skips the write when OpenCode returns no converted assistant agent or the result fails validation, and shares a file lock with the Assistant setup so the two never overwrite each other.
backend: tsconfig excludes dist, so a build no longer makes tsc --noEmit include the bundle.
frontend: Settings agents, commands and MCP read the managed view; session status, transcripts and pending permissions use the client types; a local event-stream resync also refreshes the managed config.
frontend: the agent dialog rewrites managed wildcard permission rules in place, adds a rule only for an action set away from Default, places new rules after a catch-all rule, and leaves temperature and top_p unset unless the user sets them.
frontend: a raw config save refreshes the managed view, so the structured sections cannot save a stale entity over a raw edit.
ocm-cli: link probes the server through api.server.info() and reports the status and 401 from the response instead of the client error cause.
pnpm test: CLI 456/456, backend 53 Bun tests and 4446/4446 Vitest, frontend 4092/4092
pnpm build: cli, backend and frontend bundles build
pnpm test:e2e: 28 Playwright tests pass against a running Manager
Live OpenCode 2.2.5 on a separate port with throwaway config: an entity save kept {env:ACME_KEY} and {file:} references, including a v1 agent migrated to v2; the assistant conversion kept a {file:} prompt; the local event stream reconnected after restarting OpenCode with a throwing disconnect handler
Browser check against a running Manager: Settings lists load, an agent save keeps its references, a legacy skills: { paths } object is refused with the new message, and a restart from Settings refetches the lists without a reload
Notes
Config is v2 only. A v1 file is still read correctly through api.config.get; saving an entity rewrites it as v2 and deletes the v1 entry.
/opencode-config/managed no longer returns revision; entity saves use the revision of the raw config.
The upstream resync is held until the Manager's OpenCode proxy accepts requests, so a restart no longer loses the catch-up reads.
Deferred: the MCP OAuth proxy keeps its own config-document lookup.

Layer / File(s)
Summary
OpenCode subscriptions and event delivery backend/src/services/opencode-event-*, backend/src/services/remote-server-events.ts, backend/src/services/sse-aggregator.ts
Local and remote consumers use typed OpenCode subscriptions with reconnect handling, stall detection, replay events, and lifecycle-gated resync.
Frontend stream handling and compaction shared/src/schemas/sse.ts, frontend/src/lib/opencode-event-stream/*, frontend/src/contexts/EventContext.tsx, frontend/src/stores/sessionStatusStore.ts, frontend/src/pages/SessionDetail.tsx
The frontend uses shared stream-event types, handles SSH host-key and compaction events, invalidates managed configuration on local resync, and preserves session status across compaction.
A shared helper forwards streaming request and response bodies, preserves response status, handles null-body statuses, and applies header timeouts to bodyless requests.
Frontend OpenCode API and model alignment frontend/src/api/opencode.ts, frontend/src/api/providers.ts, frontend/src/hooks/useOpenCode.ts, frontend/src/lib/modelSections.ts
Frontend request types derive from OpenCode API methods. Session and file-search requests use OpenCode request shapes. Provider models separate catalog id from backing modelID.
CLI server probe ocm-cli/src/link.ts, ocm-cli/test/link.test.ts
The CLI uses the OpenCode API client for server information and maps unauthorized, HTTP, and transport failures to probe results.

🔎 Failure modes
What: Deleting, editing or renaming one model saves the whole provider, including its sibling models and settings. These values come from the merged managed view, so values defined in a lower-priority config file get written into the file that receives saves. Where: frontend/src/components/settings/OpenCodeModelsEditor.tsx:handleModelSubmit / deleteModel Trigger: A provider is defined in `opencode.json`, saves go to `opencode.jsonc`, and the user deletes or edits one of its models. Detected by: nothing. The tests in this PR assert that sibling models and settings are kept in the patch, which is exactly this behavior. Covered in this PR: No
What: The local event aggregator and remote hubs now treat a quiet stream as stalled. If the client's `onActivity` callback does not fire on server heartbeats, an idle OpenCode server is disconnected and reconnected every stall threshold. Each reconnect broadcasts a `resync` and replays session statuses. Where: backend/src/services/opencode-event-subscription.ts:subscribeOpenCodeEvents Trigger: An idle OpenCode server that sends heartbeats but no events for longer than `DEFAULTS.SSE.STALL_THRESHOLD_MS`. Detected by: Repeated "SSE upstream disconnected" warnings and `resync` frames in client logs. The unit tests use a fake stream, so they cannot show whether real heartbeats count as activity. Covered in this PR: No
What: `GET /opencode-config/mcp` and every structured Settings section now depend on `api.config.get`. While OpenCode is down they return 503 or show "unavailable" instead of the config-only fallback used before. Entity saves also fail with 503, because restoring references needs the resolved config. Where: backend/src/routes/opencode-config.ts:/mcp, backend/src/services/opencode-config-apply.ts:keepOpenCodeConfigReferences Trigger: The OpenCode server is stopped or crashing while the user or the Assistant lists MCP servers or saves an agent, command, provider or MCP server. Detected by: The 503 route tests and the frontend "unavailable notice" test cover this path. Covered in this PR: Yes

🔒 Security concerns
Possible exposure of resolved secrets (not confirmed): the Settings UI now reads /opencode-config/managed. That endpoint returns the config as OpenCode resolved it, so {env:VAR} and {file:path} references come back as their substituted values. Secrets are redacted only when redactSecrets is set. The internal route test confirms redaction there, but nothing in this diff shows the browser-facing settings route enabling it. If it is off, provider API keys and MCP header tokens that the raw file kept as {env:...} references would reach the browser in plain text. Before this PR the browser only received the raw file content. Please confirm the settings mount passes redactSecrets, or that sending these values to the browser is intended.
Deleting or editing one model sends the whole provider taken from the managed view, which is merged across all Manager sources. Values inherited from a lower-priority file (for example a provider defined in opencode.json while saves go to opencode.jsonc) are copied into the target file. After that, they shadow later edits made to the original file.

...provider,models: { ...provider.models,[modelId]: null},},})}
flattenEventEnvelope used to return the parsed message unchanged when it had no payload. It now returns null, and the message is silently dropped. OpenCodeStreamEvent still includes SSHHostKeyRequestEvent ({ type, properties }). If the backend broadcasts host-key requests as a bare message rather than inside a { payload } envelope, the host-key dialog will never open and git clone/fetch will hang. Not confirmed: the backend emitter is not in this diff, so please check its message shape.
OPEN_CODE_MANAGED_CONFIG_QUERY_KEY is only invalidated in patchManagedConfig and on a local resync, not in applyOpenCodeConfigSave, which raw-editor saves also use. After a raw edit, the structured sections show old data. AgentDialog (...previous), CommandDialog (...editingCommand.command) and OpenCodeModelsEditor (...provider) spread that stale entity into the next patch, which silently undoes the raw edit.
backend/src/routes/opencode-config.ts:178-182
Over-broad 409
The restart-pending guard rejects every merge patch. The commit message says only entity saves should be refused, and patchNamesOpenCodeConfigEntities already exists for that check. Unrelated saves (for example theme, model, or plugins via the assistant skill) stay blocked until a manual restart. The 409 also isn't documented in the settings skill, so the agent may misread it as a stale-revision conflict.
…ed agent permissions (OM-179)
PATCH /opencode-config refuses only patches that name an agent, command, provider or MCP server while a restart is pending; other keys still apply. The assistant API reference documents the new 409.
The agent dialog adds a wildcard permission rule only for an action whose effect the user changed, so saving an agent no longer overrides an inherited global ask or deny.
…m (OM-179)
The agent dialog no longer writes temperature 0.7 and top_p 1 on every save. The fields start empty with a Default placeholder when the agent stores no value; an empty field is omitted, or removed with a merge-patch null when the agent stored it, so the provider default applies.

A raw editor save now refetches the managed view like a structured save does, so the Settings lists never hand a stale agent, command or provider to the next entity patch when the event stream does not deliver config.updated.

… fallbacks after catch-all rules (OM-179)
The Assistant v1-to-v2 conversion now skips the write when OpenCode returns no converted assistant agent for a customized v1 one, or when the converted config fails validation, and it shares a file lock with ensureAssistantMode so the two never overwrite each other.
A new agent wildcard permission rule is inserted after the last catch-all * * rule instead of before it, so the catch-all cannot override it. The event subscription also counts each received event as stream activity.
Adds JSDoc comments to the functions this branch adds or changes, so the touched-code docstring coverage clears the review threshold. Comments only; no code, formatting or import changes.
With allowJs enabled and no exclude list, tsc --noEmit included backend/dist/index.js after a build, which crashed the checker with a stack overflow. CI type-checks before building, so the exclusion keeps local runs consistent with CI.
…events through (OM-179)
ensureAssistantMode now checks whether opencode.json exists after taking the file lock, so a conversion that ran in between cannot leave it acting on a stale result.
The browser event stream again delivers a message frame that carries a typed event without the directory envelope, as it did before the client migration, instead of dropping it silently.

Suggestion: Every entity in the patch that is missing from the resolved config is treated as the rename target of the one entity the patch removes. If a patch adds two new entities, or adds one new entity next to an unrelated deletion, the new entities inherit the deleted entity's {env:…}/{file:…} references. A new field whose value happens to match can then be written with another entity's secret reference. Only treat a removal as a rename when exactly one new entity name is present. [possible issue, importance: 5]
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Suggestion: When no pre-compaction status was recorded but the session is still marked compact, endCompaction returns early and the session stays in "Compacting" forever. This can happen when compact was set some other way or the map entry was lost. Fall back to idle so a compaction end or failure always clears the compacting state. [possible issue, importance: 4]
… it empty (OM-179)
Returning every agent permission to Default now removes the permissions key, and clearing the last sampling value removes the request key, instead of leaving an empty array or an empty body in the config. Found while testing the Settings dialog in a browser.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Suggestion:subscribeOpenCodeEvents().reconnect() aborts the current attempt by changing the loop token. The old loop then returns early without calling onDisconnect. As a result, upstreamConnected stays true and a held resyncPending stays set while the new stream is still connecting. During that window, getConnectionStatus() wrongly reports the upstream as connected, and releasePendingResync() can broadcast a resync before the new stream exists. Reset this state before forcing the reconnect. [possible bug, importance: 6]
