Description

@glenrobson

This Issue lists the images we need from the community to visualize the use cases in the specification.

Use Case 6: 3D Chessboard

Single chess piece

"Viewer should render the chess pawn at (-1,0,1), add the light, and base the viewport on the provided camera"
NOTE: Current image is of the astronaut

Scene represents a collection of chess game pieces with multiple pawns and a single queen

This example paints the chess piece Scene from the previous examples into a parent Scene twice, placing the two groups of chess pieces side by side.

This example paints both the chess piece Scene and a Canvas containing a chessboard image into the same parent Scene. The chess pieces from the previous examples are painted at the Scene origin, and a 2D chessboard Canvas is rotated and scaled to lie flat beneath them, so the chess pieces appear to be standing on the board.

Use Case 7: What’s the Use Case?

https://preview.iiif.io/api/prezi-4/presentation/4.0/#use-case-7-whats-the-use-case
Needs use case

Use Case 8: Commenting

  • Commenting about 3D sculpture
    NEEDS MANIFEST
    1st Century Roman portrait bust with comment

  • 3D Comments with Cameras
    NEEDS MANIFEST
    "It is possible to associate a particular camera with a particular commenting annotation via activating annotations. In many complex 3D Scenes, it may not be clear from where to look at a particular point of interest. The view may be occluded by parts of the model, or other models in the Scene. In the following example, the user can explore the Scene freely, but when they select a particular comment, a specific Camera that was previously hidden (unavailable to the user) is shown, enabled, and selected. The selected Camera is now the active Camera, and the viewport into the Scene is moved to a chosen position suitable for looking at the point of interest."

Use Case 9: Linking and Activating

  • Interactive 3D light switch
    NEEDS MANIFEST
    This example is a light switch that can be toggled on and off using activating annotations that result in behaviors being applied to or removed from a resource.

  • Triggering Model Animations
    NEEDS MANIFEST
    Music Box with lid that opens as an internal animation

    @gjcope

    @glenrobson Took a stab at these, but looks like the pawn model is in meter scale so we have something ~0.02 x ~0.04 units moving around 1 unit. I assume this is not what we want?

    This is a screenshot of a modifed uc06_multiple_3d_objects . The locations of the pieces have been moved so that they are separated by distances comparable to their sizes; and the camera has been moved in so they are easily visible. The cone of the spotlight has been reduces to make the bounday of the lit regions visible. The modified manifest is in a fork of the IIIF/api repo, the manifest is at uc06_multiple_3d_objects and a PR could be prepared if this is an acceptable set of modifications

    Hey @vincentmarchetti I tried your updated manifest and got pretty close. A couple of notes.

    • With the camera 1 unit away and the near plane set to 1, I was seeing some clipping on the front of the larger piece. I changed it to 0.1.
    • I'm seeing a camera view that looks significantly further away with those parameters. Maybe we can follow up on Slack to see what the difference is.

    I haven't had a chance to look at this, but when I can I will check to see if the difference is in the aspect ratio of the viewport, the viewer I showed assumes a square viewport; and if we are interpreting the fieldOfView differently in terms of the horizontal or vertical fieldOfView; and/or if that that has changed in the spec documents
